I have just finished my first one hundred yards of canvas, if I paint 1760 yards I will have painted a mile.
After my first fifty yards of canvas I realized that I was trying to make acrylics act like oils. With the help of a new mentor I learned how to use oils and now I have what for me is the perfect marriage. I use acrylics for the first pour and after sealing the raw canvas I continue with oils to refine whatever I am left with. Starting with the acrylic pour gives me a foothold from which to work, the end result seldom resembles the pour.
I paint from what I think of as a bearing of wholeness. The reason I say this is because it took a great deal of concentrated effort on my part to reach a state of consciousness from which I could paint. In my earlier years I was entangled in stories that were not mine. I had to leave bedlam behind in order to be creative in the way I am now.
I yearn to see the wrongs righted in the world and to use my art as the vehicle for change but to use my painting as any kind of a political declaration seems an assertion beyond me. That is for other artists better qualified than I. In the end my contribution has to be my self-realized state translated into color.
I present my Large Particles Series towards that end. It is a testament to my perception that all objects and events are supported by particles smaller and smaller still, until they are undetectable while still exerting tremendous significance upon our existence. The innate intelligence of such particles can be accessed at any time merely by becoming aware of their existence. I am becoming aware of their existence through my art.
